Due to the recent update of GW, Platemail armor is now 90.
Does this mean I now have to re-buy my platemail armor, since it was at 85?

Yes you will. they updated the armor's stats for the crafter;s & new armor's crafted, but all old armor's are still on their old stats/look. Easy way to check is to log in and check the stats of your armor - if they are @ 85 AL then you'll need to re-craft them, if they are at 90 AL then you won't.

Actually, you won't.....

the updates pages CLEARLY states that we will have a way to upgrade our old armor to new stats FOR FREE, sometime in the near future.

you don't need to buy new armor.

Found it... Wednesday April 26 2006 update on main website:

ARMOR CHANGES

New armor designs from Cantha have begun to influence armor crafters in Tyria. Existing armor sets will not be updated yet, but a means to upgrade existing level-20 armor for free will be provided in the near future.
